Refund & Cancellation Policy
Last updated: 7 August 2026
This policy explains how Open World subscriptions are billed, how to cancel, and when you can get your money back. It forms part of our Terms of Service.
1. How billing works
The Free plan costs nothing and requires no payment. Plus ($9 per month), Pro ($29 per month), and Teams (custom pricing) are purchased for a fixed duration — monthly or annual — and paid in advance in cryptocurrency through our payment provider, NOWPayments. Prices are quoted in US dollars and the crypto amount due is shown at checkout.
2. No auto-renewal, nothing to cancel
Cryptocurrency payments are one-time: there is no stored payment method and nothing renews automatically. Your paid features, quota, and API keys work for the whole period you bought, and when it ends the account simply reverts to the Free plan. It is not deleted, and your search history remains subject to the retention periods in our Privacy Policy. To remove the account itself, delete it from your settings page.
3. 14-day withdrawal on a first purchase
If you are unhappy with a paid plan, you can request a full refund within 14 days of your first paid purchase for that account. We do not require a reason. This applies once per account; it does not apply to later purchases or renewals of access.
Separately, if you are a consumer in the European Union, the European Economic Area, or the United Kingdom, you have a statutory right to withdraw from a distance contract within 14 days of entering into it. Because the Service is supplied digitally and immediately, you are asked at checkout to agree that performance begins straight away; where you have used the Service during the withdrawal period, we may deduct a proportionate amount for the part already supplied, and we will tell you the amount before refunding. In practice we usually refund in full under the paragraph above, and our voluntary policy never reduces your statutory rights.
4. What is not refunded
Purchases after your first are not refundable — because access does not auto-renew, you choose each time whether to buy more. We do not give partial or pro-rata refunds for unused searches, unused quota, or the remaining days of an access period, because you keep full access for the whole period you paid for. Quota does not carry over and has no cash value. Accounts terminated for breach of our Acceptable Use Policy are not refunded.
5. When we do refund outside the 14 days
We will refund, in full or in part as appropriate, if we charged you in error or twice for the same period, if you were billed after a cancellation had taken effect, if we terminate or materially reduce your plan for a reason that is not your fault, or if a sustained outage or defect prevented you from using the Service for a meaningful part of a billing period. Statutory remedies where a digital service is not as described are unaffected.
6. Buying a higher plan
Because each purchase is a separate fixed-duration window, buying a higher plan starts a new window at that plan. We do not pro-rate or refund the remainder of a lower plan bought earlier.
7. Under-payments and expiry
Crypto invoices expire if unpaid, and a partial payment does not activate a plan. If an invoice under-pays or expires, contact us with the payment details and we will credit the correct plan or arrange a return of received funds, minus unavoidable network fees.
8. How to request a refund
Email hello@openworld.io from the address on the account, and include the payment date, amount, the coin used, and the transaction hash. We acknowledge requests within one business day and approve or explain our decision within five business days.
Approved refunds are paid in cryptocurrency to a wallet address you provide, in the same coin where possible. We submit the refund within two business days of approval; unavoidable blockchain network fees are deducted from the refunded amount. Because crypto transactions are irreversible, we cannot reverse a confirmed payment ourselves — a refund is a new transaction back to you.
10. Changes
We may update this policy. The date at the top of the page reflects the current version, and the version in force when you were charged is the one that applies to that charge. Questions: hello@openworld.io.
